White Knight Laundry and Dry Cleaning, the south's leading independent door-to-door laundry and dry cleaning company, is making even greater efforts to save water and energy in light of the water restrictions and rising energy costs across the UK. Thanks to its regularly maintained and continually enhanced water recovery and heat exchanging systems, White Knight saves around 30% in water and energy during its daily washing and drying cycles. White Knight's Eastbourne laundry, with its system of continuous batch washers, has the capacity to process up to 1.5 tonnes of washing per hour. During the different stages of the batch washing, the amount of energy needed to heat the water is being reduced by more than 30% thanks to the company's heat exchanging system. The system, which put simply, consists of the cold water pipes flowing through the hot water pipes, saves 30% of the energy that would usually be needed to raise the temperature of the cold water because it has already been greatly heated by flowing in close proximity to the hot water. This in turn saves energy during the drying stage because the hotter the water, the less moisture laundry retains. Finally, the higher temperature of the water means that White Knight's compliance to the thermal disinfection regulations is more efficiently obtained. At White Knight's Woking laundry, the company has prioritised its water-saving devices and recovers almost 30% of its wash water. The laundry has the capacity to wash 550 kg of laundry, which equates to approximately 9,500 litres of water, per hour. Thanks to the water management system which recovers water from the final rinse of the previous wash for the pre-wash of the following wash, White Knight uses only 6,900 litres of water per hour, saving more than 2,600 litres, or in other words, almost 30%. Robert Adams, director of franchising at White Knight Laundry and Dry Cleaning says, "In respect of the news about restrictions on water and rising energy costs that have hit the headlines recently, White Knight continues to do all it can to reduce its water and energy consumption." White Knight's water recovery and heat exchanging systems have been installed by Christeyns. *** ENDS *** White Knight Laundry and Dry Cleaning has served households and businesses in the south of England since 1904 and is a holder of the Royal Charter "By appointment to Her Majesty".
